Art direction, cinematography, stills, and production for Peter Sommer & Tiggerne LIVE på Mols 2020.
A concert film for DR - Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
When live music disappeared during the COVID-19 pandemic, artists lost more than stages. They lost connection. Working with Peter Sommer, Sony Music and DR, I helped produce two cinematic live experiences designed to preserve the emotional relationship between artist and audience during one of the most disruptive periods in the cultural sector. As the world shuts down, how do artists and live music survive and connect with their audience if it is only when we connect with and care for something that we begin to take action? A vision of blooming yellow rapeseed fields during a spring morning at the scenic Mols in Denmark, during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, sparked the creation of this passion project for the artist Peter Sommer & Tiggerne, Sony Music and DR - Danish Broadcasting corporation.
The Challenge: Concerts, festivals and live performances had stopped. Traditional music communication no longer existed. The objective became creating meaningful cultural experiences capable of replacing physical presence with emotional connection.
Strategic Thinking: Rather than documenting performances, we designed experiences. Landscape, cinematography and pacing became storytelling tools capable of recreating the intimacy usually created through live performance. The focus shifted from performance to presence.
Creative Execution: Produced two cinematic live productions in collaboration with DR and Sony Music. Each film transformed familiar Danish locations into emotionally resonant performance environments, strengthening both artistic expression and audience connection.
In an attempt to create an emotional attachment to the music performed, we created an audio-visual sensory experience, the aesthetic 30-minute live music performance film, evoking layers of old and new memories. Positioning renowned musician Peter Sommer and his band Tiggerne in a picturesque location where the ocean, shoreline, and blossoming rapeseed fields meet the spring sky, and the artist's newest album 'Stærk Strøm Hen Over Ujævn Bund’.
Cultural Impact: Created meaningful cultural experiences during national lockdown. Strengthened collaboration between broadcaster, record label and artist. Expanded the possibilities of digital performance formats beyond traditional concert recordings.
Leadership Lessons: Creative leadership becomes most valuable during uncertainty. When established formats disappear, organisations need new ways to create meaning. Why It Matters; Culture depends on connection. This project demonstrates how creative production can preserve that connection even when traditional formats disappear.
